STOP THE WALL TOUR August 11, 2004 12 noon to 4 pm DELAND PARK ON LAKE MICHIGAN (in the event of rain, Mead public library parking lot ) The U.S. Stop the Wall Tour will be stopping in Sheboygan, Wednesday August 11th from 12 noon to 4 pm. This U.S. tour is intended to educate the public about the “Wall” that is being built in Israel/Palestine and its effect on the Palestinian population. Our plan was to have a full size mock-up of the “Wall” in Deland Park so local people might have a better feel for how truly immense this structure is. Despite budget cuts and growing unemployment here in the U.S., in April of 2003, Congress authorized $9 billion in loan guarantees to Israel, in addition to the $3 billion-plus in aid that Israel receives yearly. In the West Bank of Israel/Palestine, the wall is twice as high and will be five times the length of the Berlin Wall. The wall is not being built on the Green Line, the 1967 border between the West Bank and Israel. In some areas it cuts into the West Bank as much as 12 miles and has taken over more than 10,000 acres of land with only 90 km of the more than 660 km (400 miles) length when the wall is completed. Palestinians who have already lost 78% of historic Palestine, will lose over 50% of their remaining land when the wall is completed. Information, street theater, and a small wall will be on display at the Lakefront's Deland Park on Wednesday August 11, 2004 from 12 noon until 4 pm. Come inform yourself as to how your tax dollars to Israel are being spent. For more information on this tour please visit www.stopthewall.us |
