March
Across America to Mobilize America's Youth!
via CauseNET for June 14, 2004
Thousands of young Americans under the age of 30 will mobilize and
"march" across the country from June 19 to July 1, 2004. The March,
organized by Mobilizing America's Youth, aims to energize and organize
young people to be more politically and civically active and to form a
national youth agenda.
The June 21 event will take place from 12 noon until 5 p.m. in the park
blocks near Portland State University and bring together youth to learn
about issues, internships, and other ways to get involved. The event will
feature elected officials and other community leaders, food and
entertainment, and art projects. For more information on the local event
and how to get involved, visit
http://www.mobilize.org/ and click on “Portland,” or e-mail
portland@mobilize.org.
Portland is one of 15 designated cities of the March. Buses will
launch from Berkeley, CA and the caravan will cross the nation, stopping
in 15 cities and ending in Washington, DC. In each city, there will be
concerts, service events, political speakers, rallies, sporting events,
and voter registration drives to increase civic engagement within
communities and to better address youth issues. Events will include
students, local and youth organizations, and community and political
leaders.
On July 1, the March Across America will culminate in Washington, DC
where the people, issues, and themes of the cross-country trip will come
together. The DC event will include documentation of the March events in
every city, including the issues addressed, actions taken, and plans for
future engagement.
Mobilizing America's Youth (MAY) is an "all-partisan" network dedicated
to educating, empowering, and energizing young people to advocate on
behalf of their passions. For more on MAY, visit

Common Cause is a proud partner organization for the March Across
America and we encourage members, activists, and staff to participate in
local and national events.
