MANITOWOC COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESS RELEASE
Saturday, October 2nd the Manitowoc County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail, along with the Manitowoc County Historical Society will present a Hike Through History. The hike will begin at Vander Bloemen Bog at 10:00 am. Teacher and Naturalist Phil Knier will share the unique ice age geology and ecology of the Bog. On the way back the St. Nazianz, hikers will learn the fascinating story of a unique square, stone silo found on Christel road. The guided hike will also include a tour of the former Salvatorian Seminary and JFK Prep grounds and St. Gregory’s Church. Snacks and beverages will be available during a break from the hike at the historic Maria Haus. To reach Vander Bloemen Bog, take CTH C to the East side of St. Nazianz. Then take Marken Rd. South about 1.5 miles and look for the bog trail sign on the left side of the road. A Hike Through History is a part of the St. Nazianz Sesquicentennial Celebration. The hike involves a mixture of trail hiking and walking through town, and is appropriate for nearly all fitness levels.
